It was a year ago this week that I first started work at the Audubon Center of the North Woods. It seems like just yesterday that I was packing up to move to Minnesota. Looking back, I have learned a lot and had many new experiences.
Some of the Audubon Staff
A few things I have done over the past year are (in no particular order):
- Learned how to handle and care for birds, both education and rehab.
- Tried numerous new foods, some of which were actually good. I now eat red sauce on my pasta, sweet potato fries and cooked broccoli to name a few.
- Learned how to use a few power tools to do enclosure maintenance. Please note this is still a work in progress
- Grabbed a Bald Eagle from its enclosure.
- Went to my first baseball game ever.
- Completed 10 graduate credits.
- Picked up a few Ojibwe words. Boozhoo!
- Made a bunch of new friends.
- Got footed by a Bald Eagle and now have some talon scars around my ankle.
- Trained an American Kestrel to "step up" nicely onto glove.
